Western Pump: A Legacy of Excellence in Gas Station Construction and Maintenance

For over 75 years, Western Pump has been a trusted name in the fueling and transportation infrastructure industry. A Tradition for Over 75 Years

Western Pump was founded in 1948 by Walter Reed, Troy Reese, and Mac Daniels as a fueling service station maintenance company. In 1974, the company was sold to two owners of R. H. Alexander Co., a Los Angeles-based petroleum equipment distributor and service provider. At that time, the business was focused on fuel station equipment distribution and fuel tank testing. Herb Chapin managed the San Diego operation until 1978 when William Biery Sr. took over and assumed ownership.

In 1988, Dennis and Jan Rethmeier acquired Western Pump and further developed the business to include construction, vehicle service equipment, and compliance testing. In 2013, Dennis and Jan retired, and their son, Ryan Rethmeier, became president.

Today, Western Pump is a full-service gas station construction and maintenance company for fueling and transportation infrastructure facilities. We are the only integrated construction, service, maintenance, compliance, and equipment distribution company in Southern California. Western Pump remains a family-owned-and-operated business,

Introducing One of Southern California’s Largest Underground Storage Tank Sets

Western Pump started a new construction project that includes one of the largest tank sets in Southern California history. Contracted by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, Western Pump, is laying the groundwork for a new retail fueling station and convenience store off of Interstate 10 in Coachella, California.

Western Pump partners with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to be their authorized distributer of fueling and c-store equipment throughout Southern California.

Arizona Office Opening

Western Pump opens a new office in Phoenix, Arizona. Doing so, we become the only fully integrated company offering construction, service, compliance, and equipment distribution in the state.

Western Pump releases new customer and service focused website that is more secure, faster, and provides for a better user experience. It allows clients to readily find information and products, request support, and get quotes for solutions.

In 1988, Dennis and Jan Rethmeier acquired Western Pump and began to further develop the business into a “3-legged Stool” (equipment sales, construction, and service).
